Apple has just released iOS 4.3.4 for iPhone (GSM only), iPad and iPod Touch users as well as iOS 4.2.9 for Verizon (CDMA) iPhone users! The only purpose for this release is to patch the PDF exploit that JailbreakMe 3.0 took advantage of – so unless you don’t plan on Jailbreaking, DO NOT UPDATE!
Apple has even confirmed in a support document that this update does indeed patch the exploit:
Impact: Viewing a maliciously crafted PDF file may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution
Description: A buffer overflow exists in FreeType’s handling of TrueType fonts. Viewing a maliciously crafted PDF file may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution.
