As reported by PatentlyApple today, August 2nd, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a rather peculiar and interesting patent application from Apple that highlights a rather intriguing concept for a next-generation Smart Cover.
Apple’s future Smart Cover could include interactive Multi-Touch panels or a secondary display and/or other features that include the use of solar panels, inductive charging, smart pen input and believe it or not, much more.
As noted by PatentlyApple, a variety of configurations are detailed that incorporate various forms of technology to meet the customer’s needs.

Included in the various applications are connectors similar to that of the Mac’s MagSafe charging port, with the added options of flexible AMOLED displays, fabric and virtual keyboards, solar panels, RF antennas and ambient energy collectors for advanced charging and various display sizes on the outside surface of the cover.
With all of futuristic technology mentioned in this patent and Apple’s recent NFC (near field communication) and 3D gesturing patents, could we be on the brink of a new world powered by advanced forms of technology? Only time will tell. Until then, stay tuned for complete coverage on Apple and the latest in major advancements to come from the company.
