Apple Releases iOS 6.1.4 For iPhone 5, Jailbroken Users Avoid Updating
Today, in a strange release, Apple issued iOS 6.1.4 to the public, which appears to be exclusive to the iPhone 5. The new release follows Apple’s previous iOS 6.1.3 update that was released March 19th to address a number of bugs, including vulnerabilities that were previously exploited by the Evasi0n Jailbreak utility to achieve an Untethered Jailbreak on iOS 6.
The new 6.1.4 firmware is said to simply update the audio profile for the speakerphone feature during calls on the iPhone 5. The following has been taken directly from Apple’s over the air (OTA) update release notes for the iOS 6.1.4:
Updated audio profile for speakerphone
Unfortunately, while it’s possible to Jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 (the latest firmware for all devices besides the iPhone 5) on older A4-based devices using Redsn0w, if newer iDevices update past iOS 6.1.2, including 6.1.3 and today’s 6.1.4 firmware for the iPhone 5, they will be unable to jailbreak.
With that said, if you’re already Jailbroken on a previous version of iOS 6 and you wish to maintain your device’s Jailbreak, avoid updating to iOS 6.1.3 and 6.1.4 at all costs. Stay tuned for complete coverage on future versions of iOS and Jailbreaking.
