Yesterday, Friday May 25th, Apple released a new build of iOS 5.1.1 for GSM iPhone 4 owners after the Chronic Dev Team released Absinthe v2. Although the new version (9B208) was released over the older iOS 5.1.1 (9B206) firmware, either build is recognized by iTunes as the latest version.
Also, Apple has yet to comment on the new build regarding the changes over 5.1.1 (9B206) and why only the iPhone 4 GSM model received a revised version of 5.1.1.
Unfortunately, Absinthe cannot Jailbreak the iPhone 4 on the new build. However, the updated firmware wasn’t meant to patch Absinthe as it was reportedly compiled a day before the release of the new untethered Jailbreak utility.
If you find that your iPhone 4 is unable to be Jailbroken on 5.1.1, first confirm which build it’s running by going to Settings -> General -> About. For those of you who are on the newer version of 5.1.1, it’s possible to download the older build (here) and restore to it in iTunes after browsing for it (shift+left click restore on Windows or alt + left click restore on OS X).
As always, stay tuned for additional coverage on Apple, their iOS-devices and Jailbreaking!
