Creating Custom Widgets For iOS 5 Notification Center Is Possible

by on June 10, 2011

Even though Apple hasn’t said whether or not iOS 5′s Notification Center will have a public API for third-party widgets, developer WillFour20 discovered a way to make a simple widget to prove that it can be done.

Popular Jailbreak developer, Chronic, has confirmed that all a developer needs to do is create a custom “view interface” and then compile it as a “bulletin board plugin” -which is Apple’s internal codename for Notification Center. Hopefully Apple will allow users to create custom widgets in the public release of iOS 5 – stay tuned for updates!
