According to AllThingsD, Apple is planning to hold a media event on October 23rd to reportedly announce the rumored “iPad Mini” tablet. Expected to feature a screen measuring roughly 7.85 inches, the iPad Mini would certainly be a cheaper alternative to the third-generation iPad for customers who are in the market for a smaller tablet.
As AllThingsD reported in August, Apple will hold a special event this month at which it will showcase a new, smaller iPad. People familiar with Apple’s plans tell us that the company will unveil the so-called “iPad mini” on October 23 at an invitation-only event.
That’s a Tuesday, not a Wednesday, so this is a bit of a break with recent tradition. It also happens to be just three days prior to the street date for Microsoft’s new Surface tablet.
Moreover, Jim Dalrymple from The Loop confirmed the event for October 23rd with a simple “yep”. Dalrymple has been known to accurately confirm different Apple events and products numerous times in the past.
Also, the above images were posted on Twitter of what appears to be an iPad Mini-like device compared to both the iPhone 5 and a full-sized iPad. If legitimate, it seems Apple is moving their lineup of iOS-based devices more towards the speaker grill design of the iPhone 5 – just look at the new fifth-generation iPod touch.
Stay tuned for complete coverage on both Apple and their rumored iPad Mini tablet.
