Onlive’s New Mobile Service Allows iPhone And iPad Users To Play Console Games

by on December 8, 2011

Onlive, a cloud game streaming service, recently announced their new iOS-based app that will allow iPad and iPhone users to access and stream high quality console game tiles.

The new mobile aspect of Onlive’s brand will launch in the US and the UK to begin with and twenty five major titles have already been ported to be compatible with touchscreen controls. However, if you’re like most gamers, you won’t be able to do much with a touchscreen – you’ll need a physical control method. That’s where Onlive’s $50 wireless controller comes into play; not only does it allow you to play the games that have already been ported to touch-based devices with a controller, but it also allows you to play almost any of Onlive’s 200 game titles on your mobile device.

For those of you that don’t know, Onlive allows users to purchase and play console games such as Assassin’s Creed, Batman: Arkham City, Saints Row: The Third and other popular titles without having top-tier hardware. Onlive is made possible via a constant internet connection – yes that’s right, if you plan on playing your Onlive games on your mobiles devices, you’ll need to be connected to the internet.

Here’s a video from IGN that demonstrate’s Onlive mobile game streaming:

The free Onlive app should be available in Apple’s App Store within the next day or so and, it’s already available for certain Android devices.
