Pod2g Confirms Untethered 5.1.1 Jailbreak For iPhone 3GS And iPod Touch 3G
Only four days ago, on May 14th, pod2g revealed that neither the third-generation iPod Touch nor the iPhone 3GS will be supported in the upcoming untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1 and 5.1.1. Today however, brings great news for the pre-A4 iOS-based devices.
In a very brief Twitter update earlier this morning, pod2g revealed that they’ve discovered a way to incorporate the two older devices in the upcoming untethered Jailbreak.
While pod2g simply updated his blog with the tested devices and declared support for the third-generation iPod Touch and the iPhone 3GS, he didn’t provide in-depth details and said in a later tweet, “More on this ‘way through’ later”.
As of now, the list of devices and their support status is as follows (via pod2g’s support page):
Tested devices that will definitely be supported:
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 4S
- iPad 1
- iPad 2 Wifi
- iPad 3 Wifi
- iPad 3 CDMA
- iPod 3G
- iPod 4G
- AppleTV 3
- iPhone 3Gs
- iPad 2 GSM
- iPad 2 CDMA
- iPad 2 Wifi, R2
- iPad 3 Global
- AppleTV 2
Despite the fact that the iPhone 3GS has yet to be tested, as made abundantly clear in the above list, it’s support is inferred due to the fact that it’s been confirmed on the third-generation iPod Touch – they have the same ARM Cortex A8 processor.
As for a release date for an untethered 5.1 and 5.1.1 utility, on May 10th, pod2g revealed that a “nice” and “user friendly tool” is still “weeks away”.
