Since the release of iOS 5.1.1 three days ago, on Monday, May 7th, pod2g and other developers in the iOS hacking community have been extraordinarily quiet regarding whether the iOS 5.1 untethered Jailbreak utility being developed will be compatible with Apple’s latest 5.1.1 firmware.
Today pod2g informed his followers that he’s managed to successfully get the iOS 5.1 untethered Jailbreak running on the new 3rd-generation iPad – this is the good news we’ve been waiting for!
After pod2g announced that the untethered Jailbreak was working on his iPhone 4, he hinted at A5 (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) and A5X (3rd-generation iPad) compatibility and it seemed obvious that the upcoming utility will include Apple’s newest iOS-based devices – but support hasn’t been officially confirmed until now.
However, even though pod2g has achieved a great feat, he still has to stabilize “the payload” before moving on. Once accomplished, pod2g will then attempt to Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 on presumably all devices.
UPDATE: In another Tweet, pod2g announced that “if it works on iPad 3 and iPhone 4”, he can confirm that it will work on every current iOS-based device running iOS 5.1 and possibly 5.1.1 (except maybe the Apple TV 3):
As usual, there isn’t a timeline or release date. Stay tuned for complete coverage regarding the iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak.
