This week, on May 23rd, we learned that pod2g (an incredibly prominent iOS security expert and hacker) is planning on releasing the iOS 5.1.1 untethered Jailbreak, that he’s been developing, in collaboration with other members of both well-known Dev teams, in “a matter of days”.
Two days after pod2g’s big announcement, MuscleNerd (a key member of iPhone Dev Team) released a very useful Jailbreak “info sheet” that answers various questions pertaining to the upcoming untethered 5.1.1 Jailbreak.
Today pod2g revealed that they’ve successfully tested and added support for the new “iPad3,3” (or the third-generation CDMA model iPad). Immediately after the above update, pod2g asked if anyone at Hack In The Box 2012 has access to an iPad2,4 which is the only device they still need to incorporate.
For those of you who are wondering which iPad the “2,4” nomenclature belongs to, it’s the latest iPad 2 model that was released after the third-generation iPad for a discounted price. The iPad 2,4 differs from it’s Wi-Fi only iPad 2,1 counterpart in the sense that it utilizes Apple’s new 32-nm process (fist implemented in the Apple TV 3) to effectively cut down on manufacturing costs.
While this is outstanding news, as there’s only one device left that’s in need of testing, a solid release date has yet to be confirmed. As usual, stay tuned for breaking Jailbreak coverage and a tutorial on the iOS 5.1.1 untethered Jailbreak once it’s available.
